First steps at music-making

First steps at music-making

Son of a family of folk players, Uuno Klami first taught himself to play the harmonium and fiddle and to pluck the strings of his mother’s guitar. In the musical home of Dr Huugo Niinivaara, principal of the Harju Agricultural College, he was able to improvise on a Hellas piano. Later, his mother bought him a piano of his own.

At the Helsinki Music Institute, Uuno Klami studied composition, the piano, violin and organ.
