Amalia (left), Vieno, Anton and Uuno Klami in a family portrait taken at Virolahti in 1903. To Uuno’s horror, he had to have his hair cut before the photo was taken and he only agreed to be in the photo if he could wear the red hat belonging to his cousin Elsa.
Uuno’s little sister Vieno died of meningitis in August 1904 and his father Anton of tuberculosis in November of the same year. His grandmother died in 1914, and in June 1916 his mother, Amalia, succumbed to TB.
